“Human By Night” strives to play it as balanced as possible. Musically, you can hear the spaced out fuzz, but there’s such a clarity and crispness to it all as well. In the words, gloom rears its ugly head, but then again, maybe the stars are showing Lucky Shivers a way out.

It’s a song that manages to pick up the pace while moving casually. It does so while moments of uncertainty linger, creeping in when one is alone or things are winding down at the end of the day. With killer harmonies, the dragging momentum picks up to show itself fully in the final thirty seconds.

As you hear about feeling like an alien due to these moments of lurking gloom, “Human By Night” still manages to reach up and grasp just enough at the heavens. Seeing how it all plays out is worth a repeat. Or several.
