High Sunn

Sure Justin Cheromiah is a student in high school, but from the sound of it, he’s also a well-versed student of indie pop and lo-fi influences as well. His project High Sunn will be releasing the album Flower Funeral next week from Crafted Sounds. With a plucky, upbeat guitar tempo that drags you into the sun, if “What a Joke” is any indication, you’ll want to pre-order the album from High Sunn's bandcamp now.

A classic drum rhythm falls just shy of double time when the music climbs a bit high before rolling back down to a steady pace. One thing is for sure – “What a Joke” doesn’t want to get too ahead of itself. Cheromiah’s elongated, lo-fi vocals almost echo back at you, and it gives off an early age Peter, Bjorn, and Jon vibe. The San Francisco musician is trying to figure out what it’s all about and how to be something.

But you know what? He’ll be okay. If you trust the music and words that come along with it, you can’t help but feel good about the possible future ahead of the talent. Joey Smith
