Karim Huu Do's 'Submarine', for The Shoes

This right here is what it’s all about. Mood, tension, atmosphere…art. Directed by Karim Huu Do, The Shoes’ moody and melancholic “Submarine” is the type of video that’ll stay with you. An exercise in body horror, the French duo’s latest is beautifully macabre, and gloriously unsettling.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a shout-out to Mystery Jets’ Blaine Harrison, who lends his haunting vocals to the song. And speaking of the song, The Shoes have managed to conjure up a wonderful dose of sonic alchemy, with a tone that I can’t help but compare to such 90’s stalwarts as Portishead and, on their more relaxed days, Groove Armada. Enjoy our latest video of the week, and don’t blame us if this one keeps you up at night.
