Directed by Erika Calmeyer, “The Weight of Spring” is a beautiful and understated exploration of love and companionship in its many forms, and at its many stages. The song, by Oslo slowcore / dream pop band The White Birch, is a lovely, melodic ditty with a similarly understated quality that perfectly matches the visuals. Look out for the second verse when the female vocals kick in, because wow.

Regarding the visuals, shoutout to Benjamin Loeb (of whom I’ve been a longtime fan) on the tasteful cinematography. In this case “The Weight of Spring” was shot on 35mm film, giving its visuals a classic, almost timeless quality that somehow adds texture to the narrative. Always a pleasure stumbling on something as tasteful and well thought out as this.
