Our latest video of the week comes from French electronic dance act THYLACINE, with the bleak yet beautiful “Mountains”. Shot with panache by Dani Fernandez Abelló and directed by Cyprien Clément-Delmas, the video takes us into an unnamed Eastern European town which really could be anywhere.

At its heart, “Mountains” is a tale of lost hope and dreams deferred. As the narrator at the video’s start eloquently puts it, ‘Here, time is suspended’. There is an unmistakable poetry to the calculated chaos on display, and an eerie timelessness to the visuals that proves to be a perfect match for the 90’s ambient feel of the song. The images and overall mood conjured in this piece are at times borderline dystopian, as if we’re seeing into a land long forgotten. In any case, one thing’s for sure…dystopia has never looked quite so good. MB
