Son LuxTo call Son Lux an artist who defies genre would be fair, but it would also be the easy way out. He’s alt-hop with a gritty rock, post-industrial/electronic feel. The musician, whose name is Ryan Lott, shows what it means when someone describes their music as art. It’s fitting considering the Denver born Lott is now in New York City, a place where you need to stand out to say the least. “My Father’s Children” is a bit transcendent, which is why it’s hard to classify the genre, and that’s great. It’s what makes music exciting. A very subdued, pulsating electronic beat resonates through a song that is complimented by a snappish clap and mildly haunting choir. It’s outstandingly clean and captivating. Amazing art once again from a very memorable artist. JS
