CathedralsWe first heard Cathedrals - the San Francisco indie/electronic duo of Brodie Jenkins and Johnny Hwin - way back in February, and we came crashing to our knees under the power of what they were putting out. Their latest track, “Want My Love”, takes neo-R&B into a whole new zone. The track has a slightly bellowing synth anchor, and features biting electronic snare coupled with the faintest of guitar interludes. All this seems to hang in a precious balance, reverberating deep into your soul. The production quality matched with the instrumental choices are one thing, but Jenkins’ vocals are something to behold. Her voice is part Lykke Li with a dash of Hannah Reid (of London Grammar) and Florence Welch peppered in. It really is thrilling to hear, particularly when matched with such a musical landscape. Cathedrals continue to leave us weak at the knees, and frankly, that’s alright with us, especially considering there’s an EP on the way. JS
