Well, what an absolute delight this is. From London rapper and Mercury Prize nominee Loyle Carner (congrats to Sampha on the win!) “Sun of Jean” is a beautiful and heartwarming tribute to the bond between mother and son. Directed by Joao Retorta and shot on gorgeous, grainy 16mm by the talented Rina Yang, “Sun of Jean” is more or less guaranteed to give you the feels.

Loyle’s tunes are generally very soulful, and this one is no exception – if anything, it doubles down on the soul. The melody alone will warm your insides, and combined with nostalgia inducing visuals, the team has crafted a grounding and heartfelt experience that will especially warm the hearts of mothers and sons everywhere. Stick around till the end to hear a few words from Loyle’s mum herself, and if you can, be sure to check out his debut album ‘Yesterday’s Gone’.
