Sometimes all it takes is a key collaboration to draw you in. This was the case with D33J, who teamed up with his peer, former classmate and now labelmate Baths to record the immersive track “Wisp.” While admittedly the talent of Baths’ Will Wiesenfeld is what lead us to hit play, D33J—born Djavan Santos—is a force to be reckoned with in his own right. Filed under ‘Emotional Dance Music,’ D33J creates a rich and meticulously engineered electro-scape, with mesmerizing vocals from Wiesenfeld.

“Wisp” derives from D33J’s debut album Death Valley Oasis, which dropped earlier this month on Anticon Records. Composed over the last three years while producing for the likes of Lil Yachty and Tory Lanez, the Los Angeles producer and DJ experimented with a number of varied sounds on the LP including analog synths, field recordings, guitar play and tape edits. The resulting deconstructed, dreamlike future house sound is made accessible not only by Baths’ vocal line—but via the enriching atmosphere created by D33J.
