Chulius & The Filarmónicos provide our latest video of the week, with the finely crafted, aesthetically beautiful “Don’t”. The video, directed by Fermin Cimadevilla, is an exercise in carefully composed art direction, channeling the spirit and aesthetic of the traditional fashion film with aplomb. And in case this is your first time hearing about them, Chulius & The Filarmónicos are the brainchild of Julio Briceño, lead singer of the grammy winning band Los Amigos Invisibles. Grammy’s don’t tend to mean much to us at SoundChips, but we will say that Briceño represents himself well here, putting together a song that brings to mind the earlier work of bands like Air, with a harsh acidic bassline acting like the slice of lime in a gin & tonic…grounding the song without compromising its melodic qualities. Oh yeah – and look out for a captivating performance from lead model / actress Kimberly Tell. Carrying a whole music video on your own isn’t the easiest task, but it’s one she handles admirably. MB
